Liza is pursuing a PhD in Natural Resources. Her research interests, broadly, are in the role working forest landscapes play in supporting and sustaining biodiversity, ecosystem services, and rural economies. Her dissertation research investigates the impacts that maple sugaring has on Vermont forests, the services they provide, and the avian diversity they support.
As part of the QuEST program at UVM, Liza is also conducting research as a fellow with the Smithsonian Migratory Bird Center, exploring the impacts of land-sharing and land-sparing approaches on avian diversity in coffee-growing landscapes in Colombia. When not looking at birds for research, Liza is probably looking at birds for fun, baking a cake, or watching a costume drama.
